Romanian tennis player Jaqueline Cristian qualifies as a first for Australian Open 3rd round
Romanian tennis player Jaqueline Cristian qualified as a first for the third round of the Australian Open Grand Slam tournament in Melbourne on Thursday, after she defeated Italian player Lucia Bronzetti, 7-5, 7-5.
Jaqueline Cristian (26 years of age, WTA's 82nd) won in two hours and four minutes, reaching the third round at Melbourne for the first time.
Jaqueline Cristian now has 5-1 in direct matches against Bronzetti (26 years, WTA's 76th).
Jaqueline Cristian secured a check worth 290,000 Australian dollars and 100 WTA points, and in the third round she will face German player Eva Lys (lucky loser), who defeated Varvara Gracheva (France) on Thursday, 6-2, 3-6, 6-4.
Lys (26 years old, WTA's 128th) has a 3-0 record in head-to-head matches with Jaqueline Cristian, having won against her at the Transylvania Open (2023), Dubai (2024), and Bari (2024), each time after Cristian won the first set.
