Protests against presidential candidate Calin Georgescu continued on Thursday evening in several cities in Romania.

CLUJ-NAPOCA

Over one thousand persons gathered again before the Prefect Institution headquarters, where they demonstrated for democracy and against Calin Georgescu.

Same as on Wednesday evening, when over one thousand persons participated in the protest as well, the demonstrators on Thursday evening chanted slogans such as "Love of country is not legionary," "Democracy, not tyranny," "Youth says in chorus, do not vote a dictator," "Alert, anti-fascist alert."

Moreover, they bore placards and banners with messages such as "Europe," "I don't want to leave my country," "I am afraid in my country," "Educated youth do not vote for fascists and legionaries," alongside flags of Romania and the European Union.

The protests were organised by the "Students for democracy" independent group.

Approximately 200 young people protested in the Union Square with slogans such as "Where does the legionary get his money," "Romania, do not forget, Europe is your home."

Protesters came with placards with written messages reading "Democracy, not dictatorship," "Young people ask in chorus, do not vote for a dictator," "No democracy, no future," "No fascism in Parliament," "Better on the street than in a dictatorship," "Our mothers did not cut the divine thread when we were born," "I do not do it for me, I do it for my grandparents," "Parents, grandparents, do not let yourselves fooled."

Protests took place for the third day in a row in Timisoara as well, but in smaller numbers than the previous days. AGERPRES (RO - author: Marius Avram, Dana Malache, editor: Catalin Alexandru; EN - editor: Adina Panaitescu)
