Summer season at Ursu Lake in Sovata opens
The president of the Mures County Council (CJ), Peter Ferenc, announced on Friday the official opening of the summer season at Ursu Lake in the Sovata Balneoclimateric Resort, declared by the Book of Records to be the deepest heliothermal lake in the world, having a depth of 18 meters and an unfolded surface of 4,200 meters, in the shape of a bear's fur.
The Visit Sovata Association also announced on Friday the official opening of the "season of partying and fun at Sovata" and posted a series of photos of the special attractions that delight tourists in this resort: Ursu Lake and Arboretele de pe Saraturi, the Belvedere tower that can be seen from the whole resort, the carriage rides through the inter-war scenery, but also the narrow-gauge train ride to the Campul Cetatii.
Ursu Lake was formed 149 years ago, being the only one whose exact year, day, hour and minute of formation are known, based on research carried out by the historian Jozsa Andras: May 27, 1875, 11:00 a.m., during torrential rains, on the site of a pasture where two streams flowed.
Starting from 1928, in Sovata there has been a treatment base on the shore of Ursu Lake, which was the first spa establishment built in this area, after which the Black Lake treatment base was established in 1933, and in 1973 the base of treatment at the Sovata Hotel, currently the Danubius Health Spa Hotel.
Research has shown that Sovata Resort holds three world records: one is that Ursu Lake is the largest and warmest heliothermal lake in the world, the second record is held because it is the only salt water lake in the world surrounded by a mountain of salt with a rich vegetation, due to the volcanic soil that has been deposited over time, called Arboretele de pe Saraturi, and the third world record consists in the fact that it is the only natural lake in the world whose date of birth is known with a precision of one minute.
