The Universal Day of Culture was celebrated Monday night at the National Museum of Romanian Literature, in the organisation of the embassies of Argentina, Cuba, Denmark, Greece, Mexico, Norway and The Liszt Institute who brought together representatives of several cultural institutions and of the foreign embassies in Bucharest, the public having the opportunity to find out unique information about a series of cultural objects and works of art from Europe and Latin America.

"It is the first meeting of this project that we are trying to develop, marking the World Art Day, which developed into the Universal Day of Culture. Which is natural, because art is culture and, moreover, has a universal language. This is also the meaning of today's meeting: several cultures in a universal presentation. Slowly, slowly, I think we can all build a community. These days a cultural community is ideal, while a social community seems unreal. It is a small event, but it addresses those who understand that this area of culture is the only one that does not divide us," Ioan Cristescu, Director General of the National Museum of Romanian Literature, told AGERPRES.

The moderator of the event, the DG of the Carol I Central University Library, Mireille Radoi, expressed hope that the next edition of the event will take place within the institution she leads.

The ambassador of Argentina to Romania, Alejandro Poffo, presented the 1872 edition of the Martin Fierro verse epic, written by the Argentine poet, journalist and politician Jose Hernandez, considered a masterpiece of Argentine literature and one of the most popular writings in the cultural space of Latin America in Spanish, while the ambassador of Mexico to Romania, Amparo Anguiano, made a description of "nierika", an artistic manifestation dedicated to the cosmogony of the Wixarika people.

Nikolaos Vlahakis, Minister Plenipotentiary for Public Diplomacy of the Embassy of the Hellenic Republic to Romania, spoke about the Acropolis Museum in Athens, F. Vladimir Perez Casal, counselor at the Embassy of Cuba, made a presentation of the "Anales de la Academia de la Historia" (1921) and a representative of The Liszt Institute - Hungarian Cultural Center Bucharest referred to the Hungarian House of Music, cultural centre dedicated to music located in the Central Park of Budapest, inaugurated two years ago.

Presentations on Copenhagen's Circle Bridge and the work of Jon Fosse, the most recent Nobel laureate in literature, a writer often compared to Ibsen and Beckett, successfully translated into more than 50 languages, were other proposals from participating diplomatic missions.
