Protocol establishing United Right Alliance, rejected by Central Electoral Bureau
The Central Electoral Bureau announced that, during Sunday's meeting, the protocol establishing the electoral alliance United Right Alliance, composed of Save Romania Union (USR) - People's Movement Party (PMP) - Forta Dreptei was rejected.
"As a result of the analysis of the protocol for the establishment of the electoral alliance between the Union Save Romania Party (USR), the People's Movement Party (PMP) and the Forta Dreptei Party with the name 'United Right Alliance, USR - PMP - FORTA DREPTEI', formulated by USR, represented by Catalin Drula, by the People's Movement Party (PMP), represented by Eugen Tomac and Ionut Simionca, respectively by the Forta Dreptei Party, represented by Ludovic Orban, (...) taking into account the documents submitted by the USR in the support of the alliance protocol, respectively of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) in the sense of rejecting the alliance protocol, as well as the opinions expressed during the debates by the members of the Central Electoral Bureau in the meeting of March 17, the BEC will reject the protocol for establishing the electoral alliance between the Save Romania Union Party, the People's Movement Party and the Forta Dreptei Party," it is specified in the decision of the Central Electoral Bureau for the June 9 elections.
According to the cited source, the BEC took into account "the points expressed by those who promoted the rejection of the alliance protocol", BEC stating in the decision that "at position no. 62 in the Register of political parties, the president of the People's Movement Party is Cristian Diaconescu, him being the one entitled to represent PMP".
"Considering that, on behalf of the People's Movement Party, the protocol establishing the electoral alliance was signed by Eugen Tomac and Ionut Simionca, the Central Electoral Bureau takes note of the fact that neither Eugen Tomac nor Ionut Simionca are registered in the Register of Political Parties as chairman of the PMP," the BEC decision also explains.
The decision of the BEC can be challenged at the High Court of Cassation and Justice within 24 hours from the date of publication by the signatories of the protocol.AGERPRES(RO - author: Andreea Rotaru, editor: Claudia Stanescu; EN - author: Catalin Cristian Trandafir, editor: Maria Voican)
