Simona Amanar: Everyone wants an Olympic medal in gymnastics, we have chances

Imagine din galeria Agerpres

Former Olympic champion Simona Amanar said on Friday that she is confident that Romania will be able to win a medal in artistic gymnastics at the Paris Olympic Games, through Sabrina Voinea, gold medallist at the 2022 European Championships and the 2023 World Cup.

"Everyone wants an Olympic medal in gymnastics this year, we are optimistic. And why not? We have a chance. We have a beautiful team, we have Sabrina Voinea. But first of all gymnasts have to be healthy and do their exercises as they know best," said Amanar.

However, she also wishes that the athletes who will perform the "Amanar jump" at the Olympic Games win a medal: "Unfortunately, no one in Romania does the 'Amanar jump' anymore, but it is still done in the world. Just yesterday I saw that the Brazilian (Rebeca Andrade) wants to compete in the Olympic Games with this jump. I wish everyone who tries this jump to bring them a medal."

So far 76 Romanian athletes have qualified for the XXXIII Olympic Games, which will take place in Paris from 26 July to 11 August.

Former Olympic champions Ana-Maria Branza, Simona Amanar and Andreea Raducan participated on Friday, at the French Residence in Bucharest, in an event organised on the occasion of the International Women's Day. AGERPRES (RO - author: Adrian Tone, editor: Mihai Tenea; EN - editor: Adina Panaitescu)
