Upside down house, most bewildering building in Sibiu County, a magnet for tourists everywhere

The most bewildering house in central Sibiu County, built with the roof down, represents a magnet for tourists from everywhere, becoming the "star" of the last months in the well-known tourist area called Valea Avrigului / Avrigului Valley, which is full of numerous cabins and guesthouses.
The upside down house is the only one of its kind in the county, according to the County Tourism Association, and among the few in Romania.
Once in the area, tourists get to know Brambura (puzzled) Park, the place where this unique house in Sibiu county is located. When they enter the gate of the park, where the letters are placed in all positions, the visitors realize that they have arrived at the most "crazy" place in Sibiu County. The entrance gate, provided with two towers, resembles that of the old medieval fortresses. On guard are several British toy soldiers, one of them the height of an adult, dressed like the ones in the animated films, with a red coat and a big hat under which two inquisitive eyes are staring. After the gate detached as if from fairy tales, the tourist enters the alleys that lead to the house with the roof down. To the right of it is a generous playground, and in front of it, a modern restaurant. To the left are other playgrounds and a small private zoo.
Less than a year after its inauguration, the Upside down House from Valea Avrigului counts many visitors, including in the mini-vacation occasioned by the Little Union (24 January, ed. n.), almost a thousand people chose to come here every day.
"I'm glad that, fortunately, people came for this mini-vacation as well, in quite large numbers. And that makes us happy. They also came (...) in the rain and when it's sunny. Most of the people who come are from all over the country, from almost all counties, we learn from their registration plates," Leo Klingeis, the owner of the amusement park where Upside down House is located, told AGERPRES.
Initially, Leo wanted a park of photovoltaic panels, but a few years ago he gave up on this idea and started obtaining permits for the only upside down house in Sibiu County.
With an over 300k euros investment, only in the realization of the Overturned House, and over a million euros, for everything that this Brambura park currently means, Leo Klingeis hopes to strike a blow in tourism intended for all age groups, after how many years he was involved, together with his brother, in the construction of the first ice hotel in Romania, the one located at Balea Lake, in the Fagaras Mountains.
Leo admits that a flipped house costs twice as much as a normal house and everything is much more complicated to achieve. He adds that it started its construction in October 2019 and opened it in June 2021.
"Almost everything gets complicated, from design, to installation, to assembly, to construction. It's a bit different, but it can be done and it costs more. Honestly, I think the costs are almost double compared to a normal house," Leo Klingeis says.
The upside down house has windows with upside down planters. Basically, the curtains and the flowers on the window are upside down. Instead of the ground floor, you will see the roof, with the chimney fixed in the ground. Instead of the roof, the threshold of the house can be seen at the top of the building, with the terrace and the lighting fixtures fixed in reverse.
Whoever enters the Upside down House needs courage, a developed sense of humor and the desire for an unforgettable experience. Even from the threshold, it can be seen that the entrance door is mounted upside down, with a doorknob placed backwards. If in ordinary houses you enter on the ground floor, here you get directly to the attic.
"Now we have to go up to the ground floor, because we entered directly into the attic," says our guide, the one who built the house, Leo Klingeis.
The biggest temptation for visitors is to touch with their hands the furniture and all the objects fixed in the ceilings or mounted upside down. For example, in one of the halls there is a table with four armchairs, and on the table there is a bowl of fruit. Many children are trying to get the bananas... from the ceiling.
Although it seems hard to imagine, in Upside down House, both the bathroom and the kitchen are different. The bathroom cannot be used, because all the sanitary items are on the ceiling: bathtub, toilet bowl, sink. Someone also left his bathrobe and slippers on the ceiling of the bathroom in Upside down House.
"I tried to take a bath, but I didn't succeed," Leo says.
Perhaps the most impressive is the kitchen. Here are the most overturned objects. The table is full of food, and the refrigerator and kitchen furniture reveal a "brambura/puzzling" world, after the tourists open their doors. Eggs placed in an upside down refrigerator that don't break, a bottle of milk that doesn't leak, also sitting upside down, forks, knives that don't fall out of gravity-defying drawers, spices that stay in envelopes on the contrary, this kitchen is by far the room where you can see the most overturned objects.
Because everything is thought of as an amusement park, the children's room is the biggest attraction for the little ones. Here they will find a bed on the ceiling and toys next to it. Even a ball sits well next to the bed and does not fall from there.
"Interesting idea. It is extraordinarily well done. I have seen a similar house in Spain, but there is something else. There was no house to live in. Here is something else, here the house is also inverted and tilted," a tourist says.
To make it even more attractive, the Upturned House is also slightly inclined, but without any risk of tipping over, assures its owner, Leo Klingeis.
Why an upside down house? Because tourists are no longer satisfied with going to the mountains, where they can only stay, eat and walk or ski. The owner, who ten years ago ventured out and created the first ice hotel in Romania together with his brother, this time wanted to prove that a successful business can be built upside down.AGERPRES(RO - author: Isabela Paulescu, editor: Georgiana Tanasescu; EN - editor: Maria Voican)
