Ana Birchall: Romania remains a trustful partner in supporting Georgia's European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations

Bucharest, May 27 /Agerpres/ - Romania will continue to be a trustful partner of Georgia, in supporting the European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations of the authorities in Tbilisi, Deputy PM Ana Birchall underscored on the occasion of her visit to Georgia, where she participates in the ceremonies celebrating the centenary of Georgia's independence and statality.

"Romania and Georgia celebrate together in 2018 their national centenaries, a good occasion for us to strengthen our special relation. Romania constantly and firmly supported the European and Euro-Atlantic integration of Georgia, as well as its territorial integrity and sovereignty. This is the right moment for us to develop even more our political dialogue with strategic valences, economic cooperation, which benefits from a significant potential, and also the contacts between our societies and citizens," Deputy PM Ana Birchall said in Tbili, according to a press release of the Government.

Deputy PM Birchall on Saturday paid a visit to Tbilisi, where she represented Romania in the ceremonies dedicated to the centenary of Georgia's independence and statality. On the sidelines of the official ceremonies, the Romanian official had bilateral meetings with the President of Georgia, Giorgi Margvelashvili, PM Giorgi Kvirikashvili and the Deputy PM and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mikheil Janelidze.

Discussions also focused on the current stage and prospects of the Romanian-Georgian relations, with emphasis on the agenda of contacts for the next interval and development of economic cooperation, EU-Georgia relations, the security issue, including the relations between Georgia and NATO, bilateral cooperation at multilateral level.

The Romanian official reiterated Romania's support for the European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations of Georgia, as well as Romania's firm support for the territorial integrity, sovereignty and inviolability of the internationally recognizes borders of Georgia.

Moreover, Ana Birchall hailed the steps taken so far for the organization, on June 8, of the second session of the Mixed Inter-Governmental Committee for economic and technical-scientific cooperation Romania-Georgia.

According to the abovementioned release, the Georgian side thanked for the firm and constant support of our country for the European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations of Georgia, while underscoring the Tbili authorities' determination to continue with the reform process. Moreover, the high Georgian dignitaries thanked Romania for its support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Georgia and, also, voiced their satisfaction with the intense calendar of bilateral contacts existing for the next interval, while sharing their appreciations for the importance of strengthening practical cooperation in all fields, especially in the transportation field, energy and trade.

On the sidelines of the events in Tbilisi, Deputy PM Ana Birchall had a meeting with the deputy assistant of the Secretary of State of the USA Bridget Brink, on which occasion they discussed about the Strategic Partnership with the US from the perspective of the Strategic Dialogue and the next reunion.

Moreover, Ana Birchall had a meeting with the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of the French Republic, Jean-Yves Le Drian, during which they approached such topics related to the bilateral relations, Romania, France cultural season or the celebration of the Centenary, and the Romanian Deputy PM thanked for the support granted by France to Romania's candidacy to OECD.
