Documentary on late communist dictator Ceausescu to preview at TIFF

Image

The Transylvania International Film Festival (TIFF) on Sunday will host a preview of a documentary on late Romanian communist dictator Nicolae Ceausescu called "Tovarasu': Facerea, Gloria si Desfacerea unui Dictator" (Comrade: The Making, the Glory and the Undoing of a Dictator).

"TIFF hosts in Cluj-Napoca a preview of the documentary 'Comrade': The Creation, Glory and Undoing of a Dictator' on Sunday, June 16. John Florescu, the executive producer of the film, will also be in Cluj-Napoca to introduce the three-episode series to the," according to TIFF.

Carol Capita, university professor and member of the National Commission on History, says that the documentary is "a very coherent and documented perspective on Ceausescu's career", with extraordinary video archives and solid research behind clear reasoning.

"'Comrade' is a film about Ceausescu, the man... From his difficult and humble beginnings, his education in the harshest prisons in the company of both criminals and communists, his rise to power, his days of 'glory' and, finally, his descent into a paranoid megalomania. The film, featuring commentary from a number of living contemporaries, follows this progression objectively and precisely and it remarkably depicts how a dictator rises and eventually falls... This film is a must watch for every Romanian and for anyone who believes that an autocratic dictatorship will ever offer a better life to humanity," Chairman of the Ratiu Foundation, Nicolae Ratiu, is quoted as saying in a TIFF press statement.
